Learning through teamwork

COVID-19 came and dominated the world faster than anyone could have expected. Despite this putting previous plans and goals aside for a while, I was able to get back home to Bangkok and spend the months with my parents.

Luckily, Thailand was able to contain the Virus well. After a few months of strict lockdown, border closure, and a curfew, the country was able to slowly open businesses again and return to a certain amount of normality.

I took this as an opportunity to experience what it was like to be an art teacher in an international setting at Attic Studios. Back in Highschool (2017/2018) I would attend classes myself to develop my portfolio. It was time to give back! For over two months, I worked there teaching children ranging from the ages of 5 to 11. It was a great joy. I learned a lot from them and hope they could take away new information and skills from my classes as well.

The weeks were broken up into themes and every day the class was structured around an artist, object, or movement related to it. Through this I was able to learn more about art as well as learning how to put together a lesson plan: an important aspect of teaching. It was interesting to experiment with teaching styles that would be adapted depending on the children.

Having this experience, reminded me about the importance of learning art at a young age. I am so happy to have had this opportunity. In my opinion, learning creative skills can help develop creative thinking, problem solving, as well as planning. I emphasised on the process and ensured the children would be able to realise how a final piece is created. There is a lot more behind one piece of art.

I would recommend Attic Studios to anyone who is visiting or living in Bangkok! It is a brilliant space where you can develop or learn art. Give them a follow on Instagram: @atticstudiosbangkok
